October is Rise Above Plastics month for Surfrider Foundation (Raptober). Rise Above single use plastics that is. You know coffee stirrers, straws, water bottles and caps. All of the things we find at a beach cleanup. Join us for a cleanup and scavenger hunt on Sunday 10-25-2015 starting at 9 AM until 12 noon. We will be set up at the Newport Pier by 21st place and W. Balboa Blvd. Waivers if needed can be found on the beach cleanup tab. All participants under the age of 18 need to bring a waiver signed by their parent/guardian. Certificates for community service will be available.
Starts at 8:00 AM with orientation and safety talk at the Newport Beach Aquatic Center (1 Whitecliffs Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660). We will go to different areas in the back bay and clean up. If you have a paddle-board or kayak you can bring them and use to clean in the water. Many of us will be cleaning up on land around the back bay. We will have a BBQ at 11:00 which is when we will finish cleaning up. If you are under the age of 18 and want to participate please bring a waiver signed by your parent/guardian with you. You can print out a waiver by using the beach cleanup tab.

We believe the Coastal Commission can help to promote improved water quality with a plan to treat the existing and additional runoff and remediate the site responsibly.
This will improve the water quality at our local River Jetties surf break as well as the entire Newport Beach and Huntington Beach Coast.
Please attend this meeting and make your voice heard to the Coastal Commission for improved water quality on the site. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
We will be at the Huntington Beach state Park just north of the Santa Ana River. Enter at Magnolia and tell the gate guard you are cleaning up the beach with Surfrider Foundation at lifeguard tower 2. They will let you in no charge. You will need to drive south though the gate at Brookhurst all the way down until the parking lot ends. Need more info contact Darrel at email@example.com or call 714-623-1760.

If you have ever been to the beach in Newport or Huntington you know it gets crazy busy if not just crazy period so we will not have a beach cleanup on July 4th. Our beach cleanups will resume in August.
Thanks to Kaelah Wilson who created this soundtrack with the help of some friends to benefit Surfrider Foundation Newport Beach Chapter. The Album is called IE (Inland Empire) to the Sea. Kaelah is into music and the beach and is aware of the challenges the Ocean has because of urban runoff. This Album has a variety of artists and represents the unique talents of those artists who live right here in our watershed. You can sample the music here and if you would like to buy it that is easy too. Just follow the prompts.
